In 1977, PSI began as a family-owned painting and finishing business to the new construction market. Owners Bob and Jane Heurung's mission was to provide quality workmanship and outstanding customer service. All finishing work was performed at the job site. Bob recognized the need to begin pre-finishing cabinets and millwork off-site in a controlled environment. Thus, PSI became one of the first pre-finishing operations in central Minnesota. Initial pre-finishing was performed at Bob's home shop and then delivered to the job site.

Bob's philosophy was “We Don't Finish Houses, We Finish Dreams”.

In 1990, the business eventually moved to the current location in Avon, approximately 75 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. As business grew, an expansion in 1996 accommodated automated finishing equipment. As the volume of pre-finishing continued to grow, a second expansion was necessary in 2005. At the same time, the off-site painting portion of the business was discontinued to better focus on pre-finishing.

In 2006, PSI was purchased by Western Building Products, a 100% employee-owned company, providing all employees with an opportunity to become business owners. The support from Western Building Products has allowed PSI to grow into one of the leading pre-finishers in the Midwest.
